1. Introduction

ChunkAudio ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our audio splitting tool at chunkaudio.com (the "Service").

We built ChunkAudio with privacy as a core principle. Unlike most online audio tools that upload your files to remote servers, ChunkAudio processes everything directly in your web browser using client-side JavaScript and the Web Audio API.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear about what we do NOT collect:

• Audio Files: Your audio files are never uploaded to our servers. All processing happens locally on your device.
• Personal Information: We don't require registration, email addresses, names, or any personal information to use ChunkAudio.
• Payment Details: We never see your card or bank details. ChunkAudio Pro is sold by Stripe as merchant of record, and Stripe processes the payment under its own privacy policy. In our Stripe account we can see the e-mail address and country connected to a purchase, which we use only for support and refunds.
• File Metadata: We don't collect or store information about your audio files, including filenames, durations, or content.

3. Information We May Collect

To improve our service and understand how people use ChunkAudio, we may collect limited, anonymous data:

• Usage Statistics: Anonymous counts of how often the splitter, cutter and pause remover are used, kept as plain totals in a hit-counter service. They carry no information about the visitor.
• Visit Statistics (Umami): We run our own copy of Umami, an open-source, cookie-free analytics tool, on our own server at analytics.heineccius.de. It records the page viewed, the referring site, browser and device type, screen size, language and country. Your IP address is used only to derive the country and a visitor identifier that changes every day; it is not stored, and you are not tracked across other websites. No data goes to a third party.
• Feature survey: After a few finished jobs the app may show a short questionnaire once. The multiple-choice answers are sent as an anonymous Umami event. Free text and an e-mail address are sent only if you type them, to our form provider Formspree, and are used only to answer you or to tell you when a feature exists.
• Error Reports: Anonymous error logs to help us fix bugs and improve the service.
• Pro Licence Checks: If you buy or activate ChunkAudio Pro, your browser sends the Stripe checkout session ID once to our licence service (to issue your key) and your licence key when you activate it and about once a week afterwards (to check it). These requests are served by small functions hosted on Vercel and, like any web request, include your IP address in their logs. They never contain anything about your audio files. To notice licence keys that are shared far beyond fair use, each check also sends a random device identifier that your browser keeps in its local storage; the licence service stores, per key, the set of such identifiers, the country of each check and the browser family, together with the times of the first and last check. No IP addresses are stored for this, and the identifier says nothing about you or your device beyond that it is the same browser as before.

4. How Your Audio Is Processed

ChunkAudio uses modern web technologies to process audio entirely in your browser:

• When you upload a file, it's loaded into your browser's memory using the File API.
• The Web Audio API decodes and processes the audio locally on your device.
• Split audio chunks are created in your browser's memory.
• When you download, files are saved directly from your browser to your device.
• Once you close the browser tab, all audio data is cleared from memory.

At no point during this process is your audio transmitted over the internet or stored on any server.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use minimal cookies and local storage:

• Preference Cookies: To remember your settings (like chunk duration preferences).
• Analytics: Our analytics (Umami) sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.
• Advertising Cookies: If ads are displayed, ad networks may use cookies as described in their privacy policies.
• Installed App and Offline Use: If you install ChunkAudio on your device, the browser keeps a copy of the app's own files (pages, scripts, styles, icons) so it opens without a connection. On Android, a recording you share into the installed app is held briefly in that same browser storage until the app has opened it, then removed. None of this leaves your device, and clearing the site data removes it.
• Licence Storage: If you activate ChunkAudio Pro, your licence key and its validation status are stored in your browser's local storage so Pro stays active on this device, together with your MP3 quality preference. Clearing your browser's site data removes them; paste the key again to reactivate.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as expected.

6. Third-Party Services

We may use the following third-party services:

• EthicalAds: Where ads are shown, they may come from EthicalAds, which picks ads by the topic of the page and sets no cookies and no tracking identifiers. See the EthicalAds privacy policy.
• Google AdSense: For displaying advertisements. Google's use of cookies is governed by their Privacy Policy.
• Umami: Cookie-free visit statistics, self-hosted by us (see section 3). Not a third party, listed here for completeness.
• CDN Services: To deliver JavaScript libraries faster (JSZip for ZIP files and the MP3 encoder, both from cdnjs).
• Stripe: Sells and processes ChunkAudio Pro purchases as merchant of record. See the Stripe Privacy Policy.
• Vercel: Hosts the website and the Pro licence service. See the Vercel Privacy Policy.

7. Data Security

Because your audio files never leave your device, they are protected by your own device's security. Our website is served over HTTPS to ensure secure communication. We implement security headers and best practices to protect against common web vulnerabilities.

8. Children's Privacy

ChunkAudio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your data:

• Right to know what data we collect (this policy explains that)
• Right to delete your data. Apart from the purchase record Stripe keeps for Pro buyers, which we can delete on request subject to accounting retention rules, we store no personal data.
• Right to opt-out of analytics cookies (use your browser settings)

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
